The Boardroom Review and Dissent

A boardroom review gives tables to assess their performance in a thorough manner. It helps tables identify weaknesses in their leadership relationships and the culture they operate in and also aspects of longevity. It also assists in ensuring that the members who pay for table membership are able to perform their roles.

This research field is in the process of development however there are many challenges. First of all, the evidence currently available provides mixed findings on how dissent shapes boards and their function. While some studies show positive (Zona 2016) and curvilinear results, others report negative (Brown, Buchholtz and Butts 2019), non-significant or mixed results (Heemskerk, Heemskerk, and Wats 2015; Minichilli et al. There are 2012) connections between dissent and the task performance of a board.

Moreover, the existing literature lacks a deeper theoretical understanding of what influences the dynamics of the dissent. To improve the understanding of this governance issue, it’s worthwhile for future research to create a more theoretically integrated approach. This could include the use techniques that use configuration (Federo & Saz-Carranza, 2018; Schiell, Lewellyn & Yan, 2023) in order to assist researchers in understanding the way in which attributes process, processes and contexts are linked in a causal manner that is sufficient and necessary.

Some studies use a narrow definition for dissent but do not provide precise measurement methods. They are therefore susceptible to measurement error. It is worthwhile to create more robust methods to measure dissent in future studies.
